The Lost Journal

Excerpt from 'Those Who Are About To Die'...

For the rest of that day, we were convinced that our time had come. It seemed we were all going to die of ear acid poison, which was a tragedy, as we were only nine. What would be our epitaph? 'He had just learned to tie his shoelaces.' We were determined to spend our last hours together, so we bunked off school, pooled our meagre resources, and went and bought fish and chips for ten, accompanied by multiple cans of Vimto and numerous Mars bars, Walnut Whips, and Curly Wurley's. Nothing mattered now, as we were all headed for that great football field in the sky, where girls were silent, dogs roamed free, brothers were optional, candy grew on trees, with thousands of bikes to ride and trees to climb, in an endless school-less summer that stretched way off into eternity.
